What you will find

Masks on stands, carved wall panels, sculptures, a Buddha head, large carved circles, wooden leaf bowls, lamps and other decoration, all handmade in Indonesia. Next to them, our solid suar wood dining tables: three metres long, with a sculpted base and the natural edge of the tree. See the decoration and the dining tables. In the shop you can also see our Indonesian wooden beds, made from recycled teak, like the Asmara bed.

Made by hand

The wood comes from the island of Java. In Bali it is carved and given its final finish by hand; some workshops take the raw wood and make the whole piece from start to end. So no two pieces are the same. The grain, the colour and the small marks of the tools are part of each piece. That is also why the sizes on our website are approximate: come and see the one you will take home.

Our workshops

Before we started, we visited many workshops across Bali and chose experienced makers to work with. We have worked with the same workshops ever since, we visit them three times a year, and we keep looking for new ones.

Suar wood

Most of our wooden pieces are made of suar, the wood of the rain tree. It grows wide, with a warm colour and a lively grain, which makes it possible to cut a table top or a leaf bowl from one piece of wood. Our suar comes from trees, not from recycled wood. We aim for wood with a moisture content under 15%.

Bali next to Italian design

In the shop the Indonesian wood stands next to our Italian design sofas and chairs, under the art of the gallery, which changes every three months. The handmade and the refined in one room: that mix is what M&O Living is about.

Working on a project? Larger quantities and special pieces in solid wood can be made to order in Indonesia. A special order takes at least four months: we source well-dried wood and everything is made by hand. See For professionals.
